The jack-of-all trades for your wedding day, and likely the girl that will be gushing over your big day just as much as you are.
When C & A reached out to me about eloping, I could tell right away that we’d vibe perfectly. Their vision for an intimate, romantic day that focused on family, simple beauty, and pure joy was exactly what I love to capture.
Although it rained during their Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden elopement, that didn’t dampen their spirits! It was the most beautiful, romantic day, and I can’t wait to share more about it!
Originally, C & A wanted to elope at Maymont because they were drawn to the beautiful gardens, open spaces, and lush greenery. But when it comes to eloping, you always need a solid backup plan in case of the weather or other potential setbacks. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden offered similar scenery, with beautiful gardens and plenty of options for covered areas in case of rain. We monitored the forecast as it wavered, and we finally decided to go for Maymont.
But things don’t always go exactly as planned. On the morning of, C texted me: One of the moms went on a walk at Maymont and saw a big concert setup happening—the rock concert was set to start right around C & A’s ceremony time!! Would we be able to switch to Lewis Ginter?
Luckily, I was already in the area and able to adapt quickly, so I knew this switch would work out perfectly—and it really did! Especially because it also ended up raining!
The weather may not have cooperated entirely, but C & A couldn’t have been more relaxed about it. They were excited to pull out umbrellas and just enjoy the moment! And their closest family was right there alongside them as they got married, with the bride’s dad officiating the ceremony.
The garden offers two packages, catering to ceremonies with up to 10 or 25 guests, with a range of scenic ceremony locations available. The couples can choose from options like the Lace Gazebo for a bit more privacy, the romantic Rose Garden, or the serene lakeside docks. Each spot provides a unique backdrop for your day!
Elopements are available Monday through Thursday, between 12 PM and 5 PM, from February to October. All elopements require a permit and a security deposit. However, the gardens will remain open and public, so while you’ll get some privacy, there’s a chance of passersby peeking around. You can learn more information about the sites and elopement packages they have available here!
We ended up in the Rose Garden, surrounded by beautiful flowers and dreamy stone gazebos that gave a magical backdrop to every photo. One of the best parts about Lewis Ginter is the variety: between the rose beds, covered greenhouses, and all the unique arches and tunnels, we had so many gorgeous options—even with the rain! I always recommend this spot to couples looking for a romantic location with endless versatility.
For couples considering Lewis Ginter, I’d recommend keeping an eye on timing since they close earlier than other spots, especially if you’re hoping to catch golden hour!
“These are so amazing, Sara; thank you so much! I am absolutely in love with these & I know A and my family will be too”
C & A’s Day is exactly why having a photographer who’s invested in the planning process is so valuable. From the first call, I was there helping them discuss timing, locations, rain plans, and photo ideas to ensure their day ran smoothly. And when the surprise concert at Maymont forced a quick location change, they had someone they could rely on to adjust the timing and meet them wherever they needed to be.
My happy place is taking care of all the details so you can focus on enjoying your unforgettable elopement day. Ready to book me as your Virginia elopement photographer? Check out my portfolio here! When you’re ready, reach out to me here, and let’s plan your big day together!
