The jack-of-all trades for your wedding day, and likely the girl that will be gushing over your big day just as much as you are.
Eloping always comes with the big question, “What do we even wear?!” First things first, I’ll say there technically is no one right answer. You get to wear whatever makes you feel confident, comfortable, and totally you. But, I’ve got a few tips to help you choose elopement attire that fits your vibe and works for your adventure.
Before getting into the specifics, I recommend starting your search as early as possible. I can’t stress this enough. You’ll want time to try things on, visit shops if you want to and leave plenty of wiggle room for any dress/suit alterations. The alterations can take anywhere from a few weeks to even a few months, depending on what’s needed! Okay, now let’s get to choosing your elopement attire!
Pick something that not only looks gorgeous but makes you feel like you, whether that’s a dress or a jumpsuit. And it doesn’t have to just be white! If it’s got a train or a lot of fabric, just consider how much walking or hiking we’ll be doing and the terrain we’ll be exploring. I personally love a good ombré that your dress picks up along the way. It’s a beautiful reminder of the adventure.
If you’d like to wear a veil, you can definitely do it as well. You don’t have to put it in until we get to our ceremony spot, so there’s no worry about wind, rips, or tangles during the hike in.
Normally, things are very straightforward for the guys! You can keep it classy with a suit, but you still have options to make it more fun and more you. For example, you could choose a colored jacket, suspenders, or even a kilt if that’s your heritage or style. A tie or bow tie is totally optional, and bonus points if you have one that tells a story.
Pro Tip: If you’re getting ready at your Airbnb, it’s easy! But if you’re driving to your location or it’s an extensive hike, plan to change on the spot. You can change at the back of your car or a pop-up tent! (We’ve made it work plenty of times)
Having the right footwear is super important, especially if you’re walking or hiking. The last thing you want on your elopement day is blisters! Also, depending on your elopement location, things like wearing proper hiking boots can be a matter of safety.
Here are some tried-and-true footwear options my couples love:
You can absolutely bring a cute pair of “pretty shoes” for the photos and change into them once we’re at the destination.
The weather in Shenandoah (or, honestly, most outdoor spots) can change quickly, so bringing layers is always a great idea!
Here are some great outerwear options to consider packing:
We can always stash these layers in your backpacks and pull them out only if needed. I promise I’ve seen it all and can help you make sure you’re comfortable and cute no matter what Mother Nature throws at you.
At the end of the day, choose something that makes you feel confident, allows you to move freely, and fits the vibe of your day. And if you’re unsure or overwhelmed by all the options, don’t worry—I help all my couples figure out what works best for them and the adventure we’re planning together. So you’ll never be left wondering, “Is this a good idea?” (I’ll let you know if it’s not.)
You deserve to feel confident, comfortable, and 100% yourself on your big day!
